AD&D Podcast
« on: May 17, 2016, 01:14:29 PM »
Hi

I am the host of the GROGNARD files, a UK based podcast that looks at RPGs from 'back in the day'. We have started playing again and the podcast is a reflection of our experiences of playing when we were younger and comparing the developments that have been made since. We have got the old group back together to rediscover some of the modules, campaigns and adventures that we enjoyed back in the 80s.

The latest episode is all about Dungeons and Dragons. We've done two parts so far: Dungeon Masters Guide and The Players Handbook.

You'll find them on our site here: theGROGNARDfiles.com

It might take a bit to tune your ear to our accents (imagine the Starks, sat in Winterfell talking RPGs).

Hope you enjoy it, let me know what you think.

Let me put in a good word for these guys. Grognard Files cover RPGs with a level of detail that I frankly envy. I think the 2-3 episodes on a game format is a good one, and you get used to the accents in pretty short order.

...and Judge Blythy's still wrong about the AD&D DMG. :D LOL!

Welcome Dirk!
Let me second DM Mike's endorsement. I really enjoy the Grognard files. It is a very well put-together podcast.

I like their look at the spells of AD&D. I think that would make an interesting feature in the WGP podcasts. The hosts could examine different spells and how they could be used. Even though I'm not a fan of Vancian magic, Judge Blythy made some good points about how the D&D magic system feels more like magic.

GREAT! Is your podcast feed on iTunes? I have all Apple devices and it is just a lot easier to download them from the iTunes store.
Please let me know.

Hi everyone,

A quick note to say that the latest episode of the Podcast has been released and it is all about MONSTERS! It features some of the classics that appeared in the FIEND FACTORY in White Dwarf as weak as a discussion around the Monster Manual.

I'm afraid to say that we also get gushing about 5e - but don't let that put you off!

You'll find it here : https://armchairadventurerblog.com/2016/06/19/episode-6-part-3-add-rpg-monster-manual/

Thanks

Dirk

Hi

The fourth and final (for now) part of our Dungeons and Dragons episode is now available.

I interviewed a couple of old school players about their experiences, there's also a 'Potted History' of D&D and we respond to some of the comments to the previous parts of the episode.

There's a 'letter' from DM Mike from Save or Die included. He got an unlucky roll on my NPC accents table.

Thanks to all of you who have started listening via links on the forum.

Next up is Tunnels and Trolls!

Thanks

Dirk
