Second Edition AD&D / Re: Stone Age Mage?
« on: April 16, 2018, 08:08:24 PM »
Somebody else is getting a Stone Age campaign together and wants me to roll a character. He says that, in his world, only Ogres and Snake Men have spells.

He also told me that Vaprak did not create the Ogres, but it was the other way around. Vaprak was born an Ogre, became a lich, then a demilich, then a god, kind of like Vecna. The Snake Men tried to stop him, because they were the only race who could, and their war threw the world into an Ice Age.

Not sure how this is going to work out, but I plan to join his game. Maybe I can use what you said about the communication barrier and work it into my character.

Just reading the title of this episode, I know I have to listen to it next.

It's too bad you had to lose this show, just after I discovered it. I never noticed S.A.P.S., until DM Liz mentioned it. I've been learing so much from you guys. Hugs.

I definately need to listen to this episode, but I thought Holmes Basic was DM Mike's favorite?

But isn't that essentially what 2e accomplished?

Death during character creation? Without using Central Casting? That's harsh!

I'm glad you had fun with your idea. Your post covers what you did with races. What did you decide to do about magic and equipment?

I think that narrows it down to a few centuries.

It's too damaged to make out.

This State Farm insurance commercial is using the monster summoning spell in their "Disappearing From State Farm Insurance" ad

But they aren't summon monsters you say. Well if you look carefully at the spell description in D&D 2nd ed. (it was the closest book in reach)

Page 151 Monster Summoning I
"In rare cases, adventures have been known to disappear, summoned by powerful spellcaster using this spell"

"Like a good neighbor State Farm is there" is the verbal component.
A fellow player pointed out the similarity of the spell description and the commercial at our last game.

But they don't hold the bag and candelabra.

If you're in the stone age, you obviously have to ban metal from the game, but that doesn't mean you have to limit armor to leather and hide. You should look up bone armor. You could also adapt chitin armor, from the Elder Scrolls games. Although I've never seen it in a game, some ancient peoples also used linen and wicker as armor. Some native American tribes even used wood as armor.

For wizard spells, you could use the Savage Setting list, on page 1136 of the Wizard's Spell Compendium.

Second Edition AD&D / Re: Need some help with divination spells

A spell to mimic the effects of a Potion of Treasure Finding
Divination Enhancement (Increase the effect of next divination spell)
Detect Scrying (find out if an NPC diviner is spying on you)
Locate Creature (makes hidden creatures show up on the map)
Speak With Dead (no quesions, the ghost just tells the player something)
Rary's Plane Truth (adapt to spot disquised negative energy undead and such)
Analyze Dweomer (spouped up Identify, gives complete stats)
And I notice you don't even have Identify on your list.

I bet I'm going to need some of the spells. How much longer until it's ready?

Sorry, I only play Clerics, which the forum rules say we can't talk about.

It seems to have been delayed, but I'm sure it will be soon.
