General Discussion / Re: What's happened at WGP?

RFI and SoD both just released new episodes recently, and have been relatively frequent recently. There are always phases of in and out for the podcasts, but it has been nearly a decade!

SK, what a cool way that turned back on the players! Never go in expecting the cakewalk. I also loved that Dungeon Blitz rewrite. Great war story! I love reading these :)

First Edition AD&D / Re: There and back again

Very cool Ian!

I've always considered doing this myself. OD&D plus all the supplements and stuff always felt like 1e to me. I think if you want a pre-basic OD&D you have to look at is as the original 3lbbs only. Even then, it is helpful to use your understanding of 1e or basic to fill in the gaps of stuff that isn't explained well. How long did this all take you? sounds like a fun little project!

Other Games / Re: I am fed up with the limited availability of 5E

I believe they're usually related to one of the big book campaigns they have out. I have thought of using them to supplement a campaign through one but haven't done so yet. I do wish we could get the actually released product in .pdf legally.

Mazes & Perils / Re: Press Release: Mazes & Perils 2e

What should we expect for second edition? Big changes or big additions to the game?

Very cool! Saw Into the Borderlands at my FLGS, nearly picked it up. Love that reference to X2. One of my favorite modules.

Thank you for sharing. What is this podcast about? Any particular edition, or just DMing tips, or?

Thanks for sharing! I have been waiting for this to come out, will definitely want to pick it up when the time comes!

Interesting! Can't wait to listen guys. I'm sure y'all had a blast with Holmes!

Classic D&D / Re: New campaigns and adventure paths?

In my experience, which is mostly running Classic Modules with AD&D, rather than the reverse, I just ran them as-is without really doing any conversion. I can't think of much you would have to do the other way, except treat AC 10 as AC 9, since Classic doesn't have AC 10. Most other things I think you could just figure out on the fly.

I was interested in running Thunder Rift, but have never picked it up. It always looked intriguing! Keep us updated on what you decide to do.

WotC D&D / Re: Massive Damage Question
« on: March 12, 2018, 06:52:58 PM »
Don't have my 3rd editions books, or .pdfs for them, so checked my PF .pdfs. It has an optional rule that if a character takes half their total hitpoints in one attack (minimum of 50) they must make a Fortitude save or die.

Seems like PF made that rule a bit better. Won't work on low level creatures that would just outright die anyway, but tougher monsters and characters will need at least 50 HP, or half their total HP in one hit. That seems to fix some of the issues you were seeing with the rule SK!

Have you looked at AD&D 3e? Not sure if it fits the bill or not. ACKs I believe has skills and feats and is similar to BECMI. Castles & Crusades maybe?

Shiftkitty are you talking about 5e? I am out of town at the moment so don't have any access to my books. I'd think the massive damage rule applies to players taking damage rather than monsters, but I don't think the rule is 50 HPs of damage for PCs.

I think Advanced and Classic modules are pretty compatible with whichever version you decide on. The modules I can think of off the top of my mind that are connected are T1-4 Temple of Elemental Evil, A1-4 slavelord series, and the GDQ series. I think the Saltmarsh series has some modules connected as well? These are all for AD&D, but you could easily run it with BECMI or LL or whatever you decided.
