Title: What do you want to hear on the show?
Post by: Lord Nikon on February 11, 2016, 01:06:30 PM
I've gotta a lot of good feedback on this from the Reddit group, so let's add more.

How about occasionally looking some of the Mayfair Games supplements that came out?

More Blackstone!

Perhaps a "review" of Unearthed Arcana, I know there are some pro- and anti- groups around, so a lively discussion is expected.

Some chat on the AD&D 1e clones around, how they differ from vanilla.

Monster/Treasure/Weapon/Spell of the week.

Back in issues 150-152 you mentioned several times about going on to review/explicate the Thorkhammer sequels to G1-3. I would still like to here you guys do that. Even more however, I would like to hear you do D1-2, D3, and Q1. (one show for each one, do 'em justice!). Anyway, you asked. I have always liked the module reviews you guys have done. Thanks for doing the show.

I would like to hear your thoughts about the running a 1E game with just one DM and one player.
It could cover topics such as identifying one on one modules out there (Expetitious Retreat Press has done such a series for Pathfinder), adapting classic modules, and any special changes needed to game mechanics; plus your thoughts in general.

I get the feeling there are a lot of us grogs in this situation. We *might* be able to find one other player, and that's under the best of circumstances.

There was a rumor going around some time ago, that RFI was going to do a review of the G4-5-6-7-8-9 adventures.

Whot hoppened?

We never had time, and people kept asking us for the mods, so we just released them for people.

Obviously, Greyhawk is the main game world, but you've also covered other campaign worlds too (like Dragonlance and Ravenloft).
How about covering the Lankhmar source books for AD&D on one of the episodes?
It's a pretty good campaign setting.

Also,

You've never done a full episode covering T1-4, the Temple of Elemental Evil.
I know you've talked a bit about the moat house before and briefly other parts. But you've never covered the entire work as a whole, with the monsters, magic items, etc.
That would be a great one too.

I think the module reviews are the best!! Nick does such a great job summarizing and describing each modules. My favorite reviews were the Giant series and the Cthulhu module.

Can I recommend reviewing some classics like Expedition to the Barrier Peaks?

I would definitely be interested in more more module reviews! Especially S3

I think, this late in the game, it's time to 'review' Arcana.  Dive deep, compare some rules changes from PHB and DMG, review a class or two and maybe the idea of cantrips.

Arcana review has my vote!

Do T1-4 and the Lankhmar setting for 1e. That's my vote!

If they do 'T1-4', they ought to mention which other modules make great filler, that could be placed between the moathouse & Temple, prior to entering it.

This way your character may have a chance to defeat the 2 boss demons at the end !

Yes, I have this on the list from various requests in the past month :) I like the setting.

DM Vince,

As I was looking through my 1e books tonight, I was flipping through my Manual of the Planes. What an awesome reference book that it is, but I realized that it is about as unused as my Dungeoneers Survival Guide. BUT, there are so many good things in this book. I just never really knew how to run an adventure in the other planes.
If you guys want, I would suggest maybe a show segment from time to time where you talk about one of the planes. It would be interesting to hear ideas about how to adventure in Limbo or Tartarus or the Happy Hunting Grounds. I know that you've talked a little about the Astral Plane and the 9 hells before, as well as the elemental planes, but there are a lot of other interesting planes, with novel creatures. Just a thought, as I know you guys like to always keep things new and interesting.

Thanks!

Manual of the Planes.

Awesome book, great suggestion.

Point of note: I think Vince got the Astral Plane time dilation rules wrong when he mentioned a campaign he used it in in one RFI episode, it might be just how he judged it so this is not a complaint, I'd just suggest reading up on this to get it "by the book".

I'm still hoping that the RFI crew runs with these podcast ideas. I continue to think that they would be great topics to the show.

Oh did I? I am sorry! I am not a by the book type person at all, so I may have just winged it. Thank you for correcting me :)

I'm listening to Blackstone's Ghost Tower of Inverness review, and it's excellent. Is  Blackstone a separate podcast that you broadcast, or are these special editions of RFI? If it's a separate podcast I want to subscribe, but I can't seem to locate it.

Also, I'd like to suggest an episode on the Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth.  It's one of my favorite 1E modules.  I actually used it as the setting for the adventures I ran in college.

Blackstone's Vault is typically just a segment of the RFI podcast. They occured much more often in the first 100 issues it seems. I believe they already did S4 much earlier. In the first 50 issues if I remember correctly.

I started wondering if that was the case after I posted my question.  I listen in the car, so I will sometimes miss pieces of podcasts.

I'll dig back through the archives for a review on S4... thanks for the tip.

I dug back through the early episodes and found:

Issue 22 -- White Plume Mountain
Issue 41 -- Expedition to the Barrier Peaks
Issue 44 -- Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth

blackstone's vault is a special, Nick doesn't always have time to do them, so when we get them, people really dig them!

Still hoping you can do the Lankhmar setting on one episode. Also, I had sent an email about covering the the Book of Lairs. Hope you guys can do both of those in 2017. Happy New Year!

I'm new to the podcast, and it is hard to see from the website what has and has not been covered.

The module reviews are best, more of those please. I would especially like to see the U series reviewed. I think you reviewed the L series already.

I have to say "hear-hear" to the Lankhmar suggestion, spot on!

Is DM Nick Blackstone from the Kenzerco forums? He probably remembers me.

The show has been getting back to the "core" rulebooks, still within AD&D, keep going, we have Dungeoneers and Wilderness Survival Guides to get through! Then OA and even Dragonlance!!

Any fiction that inspired the game or that was subsequently inspired by the game would be good to hear about.  I am thinking of Quag Keep, Three Hearts and Three Lions, et al.

You had mentioned quarterly shows for RFI.

You should do a Lankhmar show.

Your show is missed. I've been busying myself with AP The Book of Sorrows, which I noticed you uploaded complete last year, what is the theme tune called?

Thank you. Honestly I dont remember at this point, it was such a long time ago.

If all goes as planned, a new show will be recorded this week... and there should be shows for the rest of the year.

I tracked down your theme song, it is called The End by Farhan Khan. It also appears as the backing track to a rap song called En Trois Temps by french rapper MOH, if you're interested in that sort of thing.

You seem to be overdue for an mail bag show.

And Loma, I saw that too, but I thought it was in the SoD feed.

Chrispy is now the host of Save or Die, and due to days we record RFI, he is unable to attend anymore. So he decided to focus on Save or Die only.
