I'm playing 5E with some students at school. It's fun. I'm thinking about purchasing the player's handbook just so I know what I'm doing.

Thank you, DadsAngry. I will follow the advice and learn to play "electric" guitar without worrying about effects.

General Discussion / Should I read Marion Zimmer Bradley?
« on: February 20, 2017, 08:54:29 PM »
A friend bought me a copy of The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley. She had really enjoyed the novel, knew I like fantasy fiction, and thought that I would like it. I had never read any Bradley, but I am a fan of King Arthur fiction. I thought I would do a bit of research on the author.

Holy shit! What a depressing and upsetting result! I feel sick to my stomach. https://www.theguardian.com/books/2014/jun/27/sff-community-marion-zimmer-bradley-daughter-accuses-abuse

I know I should try to separate the art from the artist, but I'm not sure I can in this case. I also don't want to tell my friend about Bradley's crimes and probably ruin a treasured memory for her.

What do you all think?

 8) ROCK 'N' ROLL!

I am humbled by this reply Diz. Thank you. I will have to print this out and try to the different settings. Cheers!

I bought a Squier Strat (Affinity). It came with a Fender Frontman amp (15 W). I will be playing classic rock and punk (Ramones, Clash). Thanks, Dizzy.

Just bought an electric guitar. Just wondering if there is a particular pedal I should buy first. The amp I have has an overdrive option, so I don't think I need a distortion pedal immediately.

General Discussion / Re: PDF vs. Used Hard Copies...

I agree that PDFs always seem overpriced, but we tend to equate value with weight - yet is the value of books not contained in their luminous ideas, rather than their crude matter? We should be paying the authors more than the printers, surely. Plus, you know, trees are better live than dead (speaking as a landscape architect and an oxygen breather).

Wisdom!  8) Thank you!

Writing these products takes a lot of time, and as we all know, time is money. I don't teach music for free. I don't teach it for next to nothing either. I don't expect people to be selling their hard work for next to nothing. I appreciate those that do, but I don't expect it.

Preach it, brother!

Don't apologize for the "sermon," Mojo. I'm glad you shared. I have to agree with previous posters: the PDF and POD have really revived my interest in the hobby that I walked away from in the late 80s because of the trend of publishing to rulebooks and splatbooks that just seemed like a money grab to me. Nowadays, I don't mind paying for new scenarios and modules because they are PDFs. I can search them easily and cut and paste what I want from the sources.

What Teaman said.  8)

Basic Fantasy Roleplaying Game http://basicfantasy.org/downloads.html

or another system I'm investigating is Low Fantasy Gaming https://lowfantasygaming.com/freepdf/

Both systems' PDFs are free and the printed versions are inexpensive.
