Save For Half Podcast # 10: Basic Dungeons & Dragons - Holmes

Its the grandaddy of Basic D&D, the blue book edited by Dr. J. Eric Holmes! This little gem from the late 1970s brings us the question of trying to sell RPGs in mass market stores. It also begs other questions, such as how many ogres you need to mug to level up, why unicorns blow, and what vampires are doing in a game that limits players characters to levels 1-3? All this and more will be answered on this episode of Save for Half!

No ogres were harmed in the making of this episode, not even the ones with 500 gold pieces in their bags.

Victorious / Villains & Vigilantes & Victorious
« on: December 03, 2017, 01:21:33 PM »
Tim S. over at the Other Side Blog had a great post Friday. He was essentially taking a Villains & Vigilantes (The Mighty Protectors) character and converting her to Victorious. Since the heroine Maxima is a time traveler anyway, it was easy enough to have her arrive in 1886 instead of her original destination of 1986. Give it a look!

http://theotherside.timsbrannan.com/2017/12/victorious-villains-vigilantes-maxima.html

Hm. I wonder if I could interest Mr. Dee in a crossover adventure?

Save for Half Podcast / A "pause" to reflect?
« on: November 16, 2017, 02:00:42 PM »
Hello all,

I've been informed recently by a fan that he finds the editing out of pauses in our show to be annoying. In his view, its too intense (paraphrased) and doesn't give the listener time to breathe or reflect.

My question is, do you agree or disagree about the lack of pauses in Save for half?

All thoughts appreciated,

DM (Good at talkingfastand notstopping) Mike

Save For Half podcast # 7: “Castles & Crusades by Troll Lord Games”

This is it, the granddaddy of all the Old School Revival games! Castles & Crusades, published in 2003, has a loyal fan base that has put the PHB on its 7th printing, showing robust life in a field now crammed with retro-clones. Though C&C isn’t a retro-clone per se, it was designed to emulate OS Fantasy RPGs in a way that Gary Gygax would be happy to write for. Sit down and enjoy as your Save for Halflings crack open this veteran game and see what ticks!

No Mikes were harmed in the making of this episode, no matter what you hear.

General Discussion / Wow (Dragon #120)
« on: August 28, 2017, 12:19:46 PM »
I was just reading Dragon #120 (from my Dragon CD ROM), and found something surprising. After the dubious article on the ecology of the Gas Spore by Ed Greenwood...there's an ad.

So what? You say, ads were all over Dragon magazine of the late 80s.

True, but this ad is from the Fed Gov't Printing Office. The Consumer Information Catalog to be precise, from Pueblo, Colorado (???)

I know it was an April Fool's issue, but really?
