Well put, and those darn players seem to live for going off script. ;)

The only time I adhere to adventure modules is when its something "Classic" (ie G1-3 Giants, Tomb of Horrors, Tegel Manor, etc.) where adherence to the writing is part of the appeal. That is, players want the "original" experience. Otherwise yeah, I take a published adventure and tweak it to a greater or lesser extent.

I do find myself using more published stuff than I did BITD. Time crunches I guess...

Agreed Loma. I mean, I GUESS I can see how box text can help a newbie DM trying to get their feet wet and learning what should or shouldn't be blurted out to the PCs....but overall not my bag.

Fun, games, and fanzines are discussed, so take a listen on your 8-track, vinyl, or cassette!

No K-Tel records were harmed in the making of this podcast, not even for $19.99 + shipping and handling.

Save For Half episode # 16: "Monsters, Monsters! by Flying Buffalo, Inc."

Welcome to the mash...the Monster Mash? Your trio of Halflings (with a surprise 4th joining the cast) delve into an unusual little RPG of the mid-1970s called Monsters! Monsters! by Ken St. Andre. The author of Tunnels & Trolls decided to give the enemies of heroic parties their own side of the game, and we give you the goods....and the bads, and the uglies!

No Crones were harmed in the making of this podcast, not even the young ones!

Save For Half episode # 15: "Avremier by Mothshade Concepts"

Welcome to the Halfling Hideaway of Save for Half! This show we’re looking at a modern set of supplements for the campaign world of Avremier by David A. Hill. It’s made to be run with the Original D&D rules (1974), but is flexible enough to run with most any A/D&D rules set. It’s a big project (Core setting book and 4 supplements) but luckily for us our good friend DM Jim from Frog God Games has joined us to complete this review! We look at the setting, new monsters and magic items, and ask the eternal question...what does this have to do with Patrick Swayze?

No Flutterpotami were harmed in the making of this episode, though we tried!

General Discussion / Re: How to grow the Forums
« on: January 05, 2019, 09:42:29 AM »
Agreed, I let my wife Liz do the FB thing but I avoid as much as possible. I never got twitter; my life just isn't that interesting and I refuse to post about what sandwich I had for lunch or other exciting activities. :P

While I know forums are on their way out I will stick with them until the very end! ;)

Save For Half episode # 14: "Privateers & Gentlemen by FGU"

Ahoy there, ye landlubbers! It’s the Halfling crew of the SS SFH here to cut yer jib and keel yer haul...with the role playing game "Privateers & Gentlemen"! Published in 1982, this box set from Fantasy Games Unlimited has sailing ships, mutinous crews, rotten boroughs....but surprisingly few pirates? We delve into the books with the assistance of (brevet) DM Mark from the Tabletop Radio Hour podcast. He's knowledgeable, informative, and most importantly has read the Heart of Oak miniatures rules the ship combat is based on in the RPG!

No cabin boys were harmed in the making of this podcast, not even with belaying pins!

You're right, Mike. I don't see a download button. I will send Jay an email. Maybe he can add one. It's very good. I'm glad he is back.
Speaking of nostalgia, I'm re-listening to SOD. Ah...the good old days. 😉
LOL Liz is still embarrassed about ep 1-6 or so. I wince at the mid-50s, when I took over as lead host.

What can I say...we got better? :D

Second Edition AD&D / Re: 2e Bard: What is your experience with this class?
« on: November 27, 2018, 12:47:57 PM »
Pretty much as you state. The 2E Bard is weak and if BTB their abilities are second rate to Thieves...sorry, "Rogues". :P

One thing I do like about the 5E game is how they handled Bards. My wife Liz ran one for a while and just loved their "Vicious Mockery" ability.

Just wanted to let folks know that Jay (formerly of The Delvers podcast) has created another pod called Nostalgia Vomit. Jay is doing his magic with recording his play of game books (like Fighting Fantasy). If you liked The Delvers, I think you'll enjoy his new creation: http://www.nostalgiavomit.com
Wait, is this burned f/x?

Also, I can't find either a download button or rss feed. Pity, I hate listening to podcasts on my computer or kindle. :P
