A Book of Miscellaneous Spells II has been released into the wild!

The & Publishing Group is pleased to announce the publication of Andrew Hamilton's (AKA decostop) second collection of Old School Gaming spells -- A Book of Miscellaneous Spells II! This book of spells is designed for AD&D and OSRIC but is compatible with most Old School D&D games and their retro-clones.

This volume contains more than 110 brand new spells for the four AD&D spell casting classes. This includes more than 30 spells for clerics, druids, and illusionists -- plus 78 new magic-user spells of all levels. [Yeah, Andrew has a thing for magic-user spells!]

That's enough, right? Right?

This collection includes spells for the Witch NPC class (from Dragon Magazine issue #114), one of Andrew's favorite NPC baddies.

Plus it contains spells for clerics of the Cult of Juiblex. Never heard of this cult? It will be a nasty surprise for your players!

If that isn't enough *, look for the spells for Frost Giant and Gnoll shaman! Bad guys need more power to combat those dratted forces of Good! This gives it to them ...

All told, this volume contains more than 150 new spells for use with all the D&D games of the 70's and 80's and their retro-clones.

* this sounds like a Ronco commercial, doesn't it?  :D

Unfortunately Issue 14 has been delayed, but we expect to release within a few weeks.  Stay tuned.

& Magazine / Re: Bards!
« on: April 30, 2017, 05:36:41 PM »
Back in the early 80's my brother ran an AD&D bard, progressing from fighter to thief to bard. The class is certainly not a leader, but it's probably the best support class around. The bard can do a little bit of everything, which helps in just about every situation.

The &PG is certainly interested in bard articles ... but someone has to write them. While staff members are prolific writers, this isn't a topic that any one of us is knowledgeable in.

Do you have any ideas? Start writing!

Paladins are among the best ways to start a fight on any forum!   ;D

If we're talking paladin archetypes, my favorite is Michael Carpenter of Jim Butcher's Dresden Files series. If you're not familiar with these books, google it. Start with the first book, Storm Front, otherwise a lot of things will not make complete sense. While not absolutely necessary to read the  books in order, Butcher builds upon previous books.

In addition to Michael, Shiro, Sanya, and now Waldo Butters are paladins -- all fly in the face of the stereotypical paladin espoused by most on various forums. They may not resonate with you, but you may find them interesting.

While we had hoped to get Issue 14 out the door by the end of January ... barring getting a time machine, that's not likely to happen. The issue is in layout and we are targeting the 15th of this month. Got our fingers crossed that we'll make it!

We're happy to hear that you're enjoying the magazine, and are using the materials. We don't get a lot of substantive feedback, so it's great to know our publications are making a difference! Issue 14 is in layout, we're targeting the 15th to publish, so you'll have more good stuff to read.

While we appreciate the offer to donate, our business model is zero revenue. No money changes hands in any way.

Money adds a level of complexity we don't want. The team is international, currently spreading form North America to Europe and all the way to Australia (I'm East Coast USA so Australia is a long walk). If we bring money in to the mix we need to abide by the tax laws of at least six countries.

Besides, our operating costs are low. I pay for the web hosting for myself -- adding the and-mag.com domain costs a whopping $15 USD/year. While it would be cool to get the Microsoft Office 365 subscription for the team (we use primarily Microsoft tools for editing), it's not worth the hassle.

If you want to contribute? Write an article. Produce artwork. We can use good contributions (especially art!).

The Dorks of Yore recently filmed a series of interviews with Tim Kask, who was TSR employee #1 and editor of the Dragon for issues 1 to 39.

I'm listening to the short interviews as I type this -- the interviews are on YouTube:

I am enjoying their interviews and am happy to share!
