Roll for Initiative Podcast / Re: RFI Vol 8 issue 201

Please bring back Blackstone's Vault and the old stuff!

I agree. I understand if you want to do other things, but I guess i'm one of those who just likes the old stuff. Many in the osr have embraced 5e, and that's fine. For me, though, D&D will always be locked during those years and the epic modules of the time. That's why I always enjoyed the reviews of the old modules the best of all.

Hey, that's great Vince.

You had mentioned quarterly shows for RFI.

You should do a Lankhmar show.

Second Edition AD&D / Re: 2e Bard: What is your experience with this class?
« on: February 21, 2018, 10:34:46 AM »
Well, for what it's worth, I had one person play a 2e Bard back in the 90's (I was DM).
But he didn't really play it too much like a bard, more like a rogue but with the benefit of casting spells.
As I remember, he was a variation of the character, Face, from the A-team. To be honest, I don't think the player really knew how to play a bard like a bard.
He was the smooth talker of the group, was the one to go find out info. I don't remember the instrument he had, but he ended up being more like a thief/mage than anything else.
That group was a lot of fun, and at the end of the day, that is the goal of D&D. But to say it was a Bard was a pretty loose interpretation.

Honestly forums are a dinosaur waiting to die now.. with things like G+, Facebook and now Discord, people don't come to forums much anymore.

Yes, I agree, but I still prefer forums. I guess that makes me........      "old-school"

Have not seen nor heard a word. I wonder if forums, like these, have run their course, in the new and evolving social media. Many of the boards just aren't frequented by many anymore. The OSR has been around for quite a while now. Maybe it's just run its natural course since 5e seems to be accepted by many.
But.... no word from Thorkie. I played an online skype D&D basic game with him a few years ago, but that was a while now.

I think I may have mentioned it before, but you guys should really do an episode on the Lankhmar setting book.

Save for Half Podcast / Re: A "pause" to reflect?
« on: December 20, 2017, 08:12:33 AM »
I don't particularly like that the pauses are removed either. The human ear is used to listening to typical cadences of speech. Taking these out does interfere with the way one listens. Your podcast, so it's your decision, but personally, I don't care for it either.

First Edition AD&D / Re: Actual Play podcasts?

Odd thing. About every day, my iTunes feed tells me that I have all new podcasts on your AP feed. It's like 39 new podcasts every day, but they are the same. Not sure why Apple keeps doing that.

How would the unarmed fighting work against the undead which need + weapons to do damage?
Not sure how you would do that.
Maybe they would have only specific weapons proficiency slots like the spike. Just a thought.

Amusing little anecdote.
I was DM'ing a 1e game back maybe around 1990 or so, and one of the fighters always got in a jam and prayed for their goddess to bail them out(Ishtar). It got old pretty quick so the goddess told the fighter that he had to invoke her name every time he went into battle.
If he didn't invoke her, his sword would instantly disappear. It was a good way to snap him back in line from overusing it.
I suppose, as a DM, i should have just not given in to the constant calling out for one's goddess, but this one worked into the game pretty well.

I'm looking forward to listening to this one.
