Looking For Games/Gamers / Looking for playtesters
« on: August 29, 2017, 11:25:41 PM »
I have re-written one of the 0 level Origin Adventures for my game design. I am looking for 4-6 play testers to run through it to work the kinks out. The game will take place on Skype. If interested please look me up on facebook under Christopher Todd. Most here I believe are on my friends list so finding me should be easy.

I have no time set as of yet, but am thinking of a Friday PM meeting for the game. The date can be worked out as the group comes together.  Everyone that signs up will receive the Base Package of the Dungeoneer Book (player's HB). I am almost finished with the GM section, which means I am heading down the home stretch in the final re-write.

I will be looking for play testers of other adventures that I am also working on that will be part of the game once it hits the market.  Though these adventures are not yet ready for play testing.

So if you want to experience a fantasy RPG that is rules light, fun & made for first timers to the hobby join up. I really could use the help.

Find me on the Facebook or respond below. I will check back once  a day in the evenings to give more info to those that want to help out.

Thanks to everyone for the help.

Thanks for the responses. I picked 7-22 because it is 1 day after my birthday & was going to run my game as a b-day gift to myself. As it stands now there may not even be a game play. I have 2 for sure signed up & 1 maybe.

Was telling Dizzy in message response about the frustration & disappointment at the lack of interest.  Since social media is not the correct platform to garner attention right now I will be stepping away from facebook, this site, & tweeter to go to my plan b. If that does not work then the last 6 years of my life have been wasted. If that is the case I will never hear the end of it from my wife who is very anti-gaming.

here's hoping not to get kicked in the gut by life again.

I posted on the Facebook that I would begin taking sign ups next week. I figure I will give the folks here the first shot at it.

I am taking 6-8 people to be part of my Fun Test. The time & date have not been set. I will wait & see what time would be best for everyone that signs up.  The game will be played on Skype on a Saturday. The session will last about 3-4 hours & will cover a 0 level Origin Adventure & a First Adventure. One will lead straight into the next.

I have invited DM Good Mike, DM Liz, & DM Corbin from Save for Half, but have not heard any response. Also I have 2 of the original play testers sitting in.

I will be taking 1 or 2 from Facebook, if any there want to play, & will use this site to fill the rest. Assuming anybody actually comes here anymore.

If you are interested please respond below. I will check everyday for responses.
If there are no responses within 3 days I will take that as no one wants to be apart.

The 0 Level Origin Adventure is "Escape from Crow's Tower Catacombs.
The First Adventure is "Justice for the Lost"

I would like to be able to record the game session to use in the coming soon Kick Starter of the game design. So if anybody has the ability to do that I will take the help.

The game is a Fantasy TTRPG designed for those that have never played a TTRPG before. It is very rules light, & gives the GM all the tools to create adventures, bad guys, or to spruce up an existing adventure. This is close to 6 years of hard work coming to an end, & I would be honored if I can share the celebration of the completion of the Player's Section of the rule book with you.

Thank you for your time. I look forward to you sitting @ my Skype Table.

The final re-write of the Player's Section of the Rule Book of my fantasy TTRPG is complete. I am now working on the adventures that will go with the Digital Box set. Will hit the GM section last.

When I have the 0 Level "Origin Adventure" ready & one of the "First Adventures" I will be hosting a "Fun Test" of the game on Skype.

It will be on a Saturday. 2 Adventures in 1 Setting lasting no more than 4 hours for both. The actual date & time for the Fun Test has not been set. I am looking at possibly next week to begin to take sign ups.

The Fun Test will be set up for 6-8 players. If interested let me know in the comments below, & I will do my best to get back in touch with you. Since there is not much activity here anymore I am trying to use this to hopefully spark things off.

thank you for your time

General Discussion / Re: How to grow the Forums
« on: June 29, 2017, 02:36:40 PM »
I remain a SOD/SFH fan.

It may be that we have mostly exhausted D&D topics.  It has been 20+ years since TSR published something I wanted to read!

I also avoid Facebook etc.

I too am a SOD/SFH fan, as well as Thacco's Hammer, & RFI. I can see how folks can think all topics have been covered, but there is an aspect to gaming that seems to always be overlooked. Adventure design & for those looking to publish new "Old School" adventures lay out. We as a gaming community must not discount the new adventures being published by avid fans of our hobby. An adventure does not have to be from the old TSR to be worth reading. When talking about a topic bring in special hosts or guests that can bring a different view or can go more in depth.
Remember people new to the hobby that have no knowledge or as much knowledge as the hosts listening.

Also maybe it is time to breath new life & blood into some of the podcasts. Meaning bring a fresh & new perspective to not only the hobby, but topics already discussed. Bring excitement back to the podcasts, give the next generation a voice in our hobby.

I know life throws things in the way of release time & recording time for the podcasts. I am not worried about that. What does bother me is the "Been there done that, tired of that" bored sound in some of the announcers' voices. Some sound like they would rather be doing anything other than talking about a hobby that in theory they love.

I do not avoid facebook. I just am not on it that much as getting the final edit of my game design & my disability keep me very occupied. This forum has the potential to be greater than it is or was in the recent past. It is up to us the members of the forum to make it so.
That's my 2 cents worth. Now let me have it with both barrels lol.

Adventure Campaign Blogs / Great Play Test of my rpg design.

Hey everyone. Mojo is back again. I had to tell this super funny story. So after a long time of play testing, & getting feedback from al of my play test groups, the verdict is in. Now all I have to do is a final rewrite, find an editor, a lay out designer, & good artists. Now on to the story.

So I normally hand pick a group of players between 6 & 7 of them from the other playtest groups to play test a new rule or monster. I select the most brutally honest & "unhappy" play testers from the last report. This time I had 7 gamers, some GM's, other were players. I ran them through an adventure I had been working on.

So to start things off, the 2 thieves died when they failed to detect traps in the entrance hallway. So while they rolled up new characters the party continued on. I had some zombie monsters in the dungeon. The Cleric was the only member to have any magical device. It was a +1 Mace. A relic she had taken from her temple to fight the undead rumored to be in this dungeon. So when they encountered the undead things she was the first to fall victim to the effect of a bite or scratch from a zombie. She failed her Saving Throw with a natural 1. So she became a zombie too. The group basically ignored the other zombies to focus on their fallen cleric. Not to save her, but to get that +1 mace. In the process of that 4 others fell to the zombie sickness. I have never seen so many misses rolled in my life. The now badly out numbered group decides to cut tail & run, until the Wizard of the group, (being played by a seasoned GM by the way) decides to roast the undead with a massive fire ball. I asked him 4 different times if he was sure he wanted to do that. He said yes. The explosion of the fireball was so big, (this guy rolled a crit when he cast it & I have exploding dice when dealing damage) he just kept rolling. After the damage was rolled & the group saw how much damage was done, I asked them, what do you think that much damage would do in this small hallway? To a one they replied, it would kill us too. So they each got a Save & they all failed. So now some of the zombies in the dungeon will the roasted remains of the party. One of those zombies will even have a +1 mace that now is a carrier of the zombie sickness. We all had a good laugh, & all said they want to go through the dungeon again to face their fallen old characters.

They were no longer "unhappy" with the rules or some of the new monsters, but said that they thought the game was ready. I am now waiting to hear back from the other play test groups. From all the reports so far, looks like I could finally be done.

anyway that's my play test story. thanks for reading.

General Discussion / So did the Math...Its been 5 years in development
« on: April 20, 2017, 04:13:44 PM »
Hello all! Mojo here taking a break from my game design. I had really lost track of time spent in game development, until the wife in frustration reminded me that it has been 5 years. I am still revising, having weekly meetings with my play test groups which is up to 21 now. Crazy right? I have given myself deadlines only to se them go past because I was knee deep in a revision.
As you all know my table top fantasy rpg is not an attempt to reinvent the wheel, but to make the game super easy to learn & play.  I am targeting people that have never played a table top rpg before. I know in the years that I have been working on this game, other games have come out. A point my wife keeps reminding me of. But my work still continues.
I have been working on a new approach to magical armor. So far it is going over well in the play test groups, & I am excited about it. I have also been working on the GM section of the book, getting spells for the 3 type of magic users re-tooled, finishing out the gods both major & minor, and working on the monsters & monster builder section of the rule book.
I know it has been a while since I left one of my epic long winded posts, so I thought it was time for one.
Health is still not doing good, so I am trying very hard to get this rule book done for my latest deadline which is Christmas. Back to the grind stone. I will still post it to this site for free for a limited time as my way of saying thanks for those that helped.
The name of the game is Wyldland and so far is even grognard osr approved. talk to you later.

General Discussion / Re: PDF vs. Used Hard Copies...
« on: January 20, 2017, 12:20:13 PM »
I have to agree with the a original post in that the prices for PDF's are a little outrageous. I understand that there is money spent that must be recouped but in pdf form @least there is no printing costs. You would think they could knock the price down even lower.

The sad fact is that we may be the dinosaurs wanting hard copy of books. It seems digital is the way things are going. I get it, I do, I mean who wants to lug a ton of books around when you can just carry your phone or a tablet.

Going back to the price though, what I don't understand is this.  When you take out the cost of printing, you are left with a base price that allows you to make your product very affordable for mass sales. Instead they approach it the same as if it were a hard copy book, but a sale price. It saddens me to see not only poor marketing but greed driven poor marketing not only make it tough for consumers to readily buy a product, but give one more reason to those on the fence on joining our hobby not to do so.

I have done a lot of research into the business side of our hobby, the market, consumer base, & potential growth of both in the future.  I have to say, in all of my years as a Sales & Marketing Consultant I have never seen a product with this much growth potential. There is a brand new generation of very imaginative, creative young people that are going to take to this Social Table Top RPG game style like a duck to water. While us old folks fumble around with different social RPG sites, the younger generation has the knowledge to create their own. The digital Age is the savior of our hobby.

I am sorry I will stop preaching & get down off the soap box. But I will leave you with one thing. If you are creating a clone, or are like me & trying to create a game using the OGL that is not a clone. When it comes time to market your game remember this. The more hands your game reaches, the more our hobby spreads.

Sorry for the sermon,
