Title: Thorkhammer
Post by: outlander78 on January 15, 2018, 09:29:12 PM
Has anyone seen or heard of the mighty Thorkie lately?

As for the rest of you ... are you still posting?  If so, where?

Have not seen nor heard a word. I wonder if forums, like these, have run their course, in the new and evolving social media. Many of the boards just aren't frequented by many anymore. The OSR has been around for quite a while now. Maybe it's just run its natural course since 5e seems to be accepted by many.
But.... no word from Thorkie. I played an online skype D&D basic game with him a few years ago, but that was a while now.

I think you are right.

Thanks for answering.

I have not seen thorkie much recently, but my forum activity has been down quite a bit. Last I saw of him he was posting on ODD74 and the ruins of murkhill forums. I just checked RoM and he was active earlier this month. He was active on DF around the same time as well. I have him on skype, so if I see him pop up sometime soon, I'll throw him a shout. I know he regularly takes breaks for forums.

I definitely see social media taking over forums place. I see facebook groups, G+ pages, and reddit as strong centers of discussion and forums slowly dwindling. 5e being so widely accepted certainly hurts the case for the OSR, as I know many OSR folks are happy to run 5e for a wider audience and just tweak it for their style.

I'm waiting patiently for 5E core PDFs to start in on it.  No idea why they are holding those back.

I think you can get pdf's of 5E core books and adventures, IF you join as a paying member on Fantasy Grounds and or D&D Beyond.

mostly people have been chatting on our Discord.. instead of here. Seems everyone has moved towards that medium now. Because you chat like a forums, and also jump into voice chat for games.

Not lately, but I did recently buy the rights to several of his adventures which I intend to publish for BLUEHOLME™ starting this year. As for me, I still post here and there on forums, as well as Facebook and Google+, but this publishing lark is really eating into my time. Not to mention the fact that my programme leader at uni has recently decided to quit, and I'm saddled with acting in his place until the school hires a real replacement (I said no to the job, I like having a life!). But, yeah, I think forums are in their death throes ... :(

Honestly forums are a dinosaur waiting to die now.. with things like G+, Facebook and now Discord, people don't come to forums much anymore.

True enough.  I just like their relative anonymity.

You don’t need a paid subscription for D&D Beyond. You can just buy content. It isn’t pdfs but online access to the material. They are working on an offline app (for iOS and Android) that is like an ebook reader but will have additional functionality in the future.

Yes, I agree, but I still prefer forums. I guess that makes me........      "old-school"

Only thing I don't like about forums, is when they go down and the database is corrupted so we lose all the goodness that was posted.

I do prefer forums over facebook and other media, as I guess "we all" do.

Although I still have a soft spot for usenet..... ;)

I had been looking for throkie for close to a year now. I am thinking seriously about dumping 99% of my social media/forum sites I visit. Only keeping maybe 2% of my contacts. This is due largely because it seems if you are not bitching about politics or showing how your feelings got hurt over by the mean world folks just ignore your posts. I don't hang around where it is obvious I am not welcome. So I am going to stick with private messages. Social media is not very social at all. Shame too.

Couldn't agree more.  Ironic that we need a safe space from people who need safe spaces.

Oh crap, infinite loop ...

I haven't been here for awhile. I think when the big crash happened, I was sort of bummed out that all those old posts disappeared.

I don't listen to the old shows now that most of the old hosts have moved on. I just caught the tail-end of this, and I really enjoyed it.

There's a  text chat for each edition of D&D.. so maybe you missed it?
