Title: Forum Issues
Post by: Dizzy on January 29, 2016, 04:20:41 PM
Hello everyone,

I want to let you all know what happened to the forum. Sadly our database has been lost and the back-ups I created using our forum system were corrupted. I apologize as I know this will be a massive inconvenience to everyone. Sadly as far as I can see, we have lost everything. I know exactly what I was doing wrong in my back-ups and will now be much more adamant to insure that doesn't happen again. I hope we can all come back and build OSRGaming back to where it was again.

My deepest apologies,

Dizzy/Andrew

Thank you you guys! Definitely glad to already see some action. If you see any other old members on G+ or Facebook or in your games, please share. I got a e-mail from DMMike about how he couldn't log in earlier. Had to explain what happened.

It's like we've been level-drained! Time to get more EPs!

Bummer dude. But...

We can rebuild it. We have the technology. We can make it better than it was. Better, stronger, faster.

I've been looking into. Sadly I don't think so. I have been using it to get a lot of our old board descriptions back up though.

Thanks for all your hard work Dizzy, and no worries man. I look at it like this. We have all retired high level guys to start over with low level characters. This is no different. It is kind of exciting if you ask me. But no one did. LOL

Much like my BFRPG campaign, it does seem like the level 1 forums accidentally stumbled into a crypt filled with Wights and didn't know to run. I'm hoping this at least gives us a clean slate to work off of, and gives us a chance to clean up and organize. Still a shame we lost so much though.

Sorry to hear it.  Had to re-register myself, as well.

On a related note...  I searched for a link to contact an Admin to find out what happened, and I could not find a "Contact Us" link anywhere.  I'd recommend adding that soon, as there seems to be no way to contact an Admin to file a request, or a complaint.  Cheers!

Thanks for the suggestion sgtslag. I'll make sure that gets added to the homepage sometime soon!

It's like a 0-level funnel in Dungeon Crawl Classics. I guess we're the peons that made it! :)

It does feel like a level drain ;)
At least it was only a level drain and not a critical fumble that that caused worse damage ;)

Yes! Luckily not a TPK. Almost had one tonight in DCC xD

@DizzySaxophone  Almost... sounds like you were playing DCC wrong... I played Sailors on the Starless Sea with my players and technically if I didnt change the final scenario it would have been a TPK

Sorry to hear about this, as a Software Engineer by profession I've witnessed plenty of IT disasters compounded by missing or corrupted backups. I've rebuilt databases before but I'm not sure what modern forum software uses, my advice would be to keep the corrupted files around as you might find a way to reincorporate them someday.

I'm keeping the corrupted files just in case! thanks for the advice.

Mojo they were cowards! Glad some guys survived though! Looking forward to some level 1s and to introduce some more zeroes. Now to depend on what to run next >.> <.<

Digital TPK.

Heh. Heh.

Bummer but it doesn't upset me. I'm old enough to remember when you crumpled up that sheet of notebook paper and tossed it away - it was gone! I often tell my kids that when I was their age if yo missed a TV show you missed it.  No Netflix, Youtube or internet. You had to wait 364 days before Rudolph was on again.
