General Discussion / Outdoor Survival Map, More Modern Looking?
« on: March 25, 2020, 04:05:31 AM »
I've been working on recreating the Outdoor Survival map in Campaign Cartographer 3+. I just started today. Started by getting the hexes set, and then manually filling where mountains, forests, swamps, deserts are on the map. I then started manually placing mountains on top (but not completely). I thought I'd share what I've started with y'all and to update on my progress.

OSRGaming News & Information / News On One Of Our Old Moderators
« on: October 09, 2018, 02:18:38 PM »
Hey guys,

Many of you may remember OldSchoolChris. He used to be one of the forum moderators, he played in games with many people (including my old Monday Night OD&D games with Dwayne, Chrispy, Thorkie, DocMindWipe, etc...). Sadly he passed away last night from cancer. He was a big supported of the OSR on roll20, and was always an incredibly friendly guy to chat with. I knew he had been going through something, but did not know it was cancer. All of us at OSRGaming want to offer our thoughts and prayers towards Chris and his family.

If you have any memories you'd like to share, you should be free to do so here.

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to give you some notice that DM Vince/Lord Nikon has offered for us to use the WGPRN discord for text and voice chat. Obviously try to keep to the general voice and chat rooms as you don't want to disturb the podcasts.

Just clicking on the sub-forum below announcements should directly link you to discord. It is a free service that can be used on your browser, application, or phone app.

Thanks a ton Vince for sharing your discord with us!

OSRGaming News & Information / Maintenance
« on: May 20, 2017, 01:48:46 PM »
Sorry for the Maintenance issues the past couple of days everyone. The database got clogged up by the chat app and made it so we couldn't upgrade the database at all. We will be removing the current chat app. I'm still teacher for a couple of weeks, working on more certification, and have family in town from the UK, so I didn't really have a few hours I could just sit at my computer at one time and get it worked out. We're live again. Sorry for the inconvenience!

General Discussion / My D&D Anniversary
« on: March 15, 2017, 02:00:12 PM »
I just realized that I started playing D&D almost exactly 10 years ago. i don't know the exact date, but the Friday my spring break started my senior year of high school in 2007, my friends and I went to our local game store to buy Axis & Allies. My friend ended up being too cheap, and I became intrigued when I saw the box set for the basic or beginner box for 3.5. I picked it up, read over the rules that night, and the next day my friends and I all played. That same day we played, we went back and I picked up a players handbook for 3.5, and every day we went back picking up minis, dice, and I ended up getting the DMG and MM as well. We played every night over spring break, and then weekly until we graduated. Freshman year of college I tried to get some players, but didn't manage to. Then I convinced my friends to play the next year, and soon afterwards found RFI and the 1e books at our local game store in Waco. Held together by masking tape, these books became like artifacts to us. We quickly delved into 1e, and I became entrenched in the OSR with all of you. At the time RFI just had their own forums on their website, and then OSRGaming became a reality. Thank you everyone for helping guide me along my journey in not only the OSR, but Tabletop roleplaying in general! You guys have definitely been a big help.

Currently, I work in the same school district I grew up in. I'm in the middle of my spring break as a teacher, so just using that holiday, I recently reached 10 years of playing D&D. Looking forward to 10 more!

How long have you all be playing? I'm sure much more than me!

Classic D&D / Arduin Trilogy
« on: January 30, 2017, 01:36:35 PM »
So yesterday I manged to win a bid on the Arduin Trilogy on ebay. I've always been curious about the different early D&D hacks. Has anyone used Arduin before? Did you actually use anything from it? Or did you all just hate every moment of it.

Looking forward to receiving my copy.

Happy Christmas and Happy Chanukah to everyone who celebrates either of them out there. I hope you all have a wonderful time!

General Discussion / Megadungeons
« on: December 17, 2016, 02:40:40 PM »
What are your favorite? Which ones have you played, or have you made your own? What would you suggest running? Have you actually cleared a megadungeon or most of one, or did you falter out over time?

I have very limited experience playing in Stonehell with Dramaman DMing, but I don't remember anything about it. I own it and Dwimmermount, but have only read a bit of Stonehell. I've also got Dark Tower and Tegel Manor. I'm interested in what else is out there and your opinions. Thanks guys!

First Edition AD&D / Domain Level Play
« on: December 17, 2016, 02:35:15 PM »
Did here ever do any of the domain/stronghold/etc... stuff once reaching name level? I've always been interested in seeing how a campaign works at that point but have never played or ran a game that went into that. I'm thinking my next campaign will be 1e or OD&D and hoping that we make it that far to give it a shot.

If you did what were your experiences? Did you eventually get bored of it and continue adventuring as normal, or did you go more into a war game?

General Discussion / Winter gaming
« on: December 06, 2016, 01:50:50 PM »
Do y'all find that all of the December holidays puts your games on hiatus, or does the onset of Winter mean people like to stay in and allows you more gaming time? I seem to experience a bit of both.

General Discussion / Happy Thanksgiving!
« on: November 24, 2016, 09:43:11 PM »
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone celebrating it today. I hope you all had a great time and got to enjoy your family. Maybe even some of you got to game? (I didn't, but would never expect the chance with my family).

I meant to get this out earlier, but had a bunch of family in town I wasn't expecting to be staying. Thanks for keeping OSRGaming alive!
