Megadungeons
« on: December 17, 2016, 02:40:40 PM »
What are your favorite? Which ones have you played, or have you made your own? What would you suggest running? Have you actually cleared a megadungeon or most of one, or did you falter out over time?

I have very limited experience playing in Stonehell with Dramaman DMing, but I don't remember anything about it. I own it and Dwimmermount, but have only read a bit of Stonehell. I've also got Dark Tower and Tegel Manor. I'm interested in what else is out there and your opinions. Thanks guys!

I have Dwimmermount & Barrowmaze: Complete, but have not run them as yet.

I have played through, T1-4: Temple of Elemental evil, and of course recommend that one !

Barrowmaze:Complete but the party fled its depths after ruining relations with the local nobility and have settled into StoneHell. Had never ran anyone through ToEE but really prefer the megadungeon over a series of rather unfortunate events that sometimes happens to a sandbox. Playing up the "craziness" and camp of StoneHell with more lovecraftian twists so my victims... I mean players are enjoying it so far

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm also interested in Barrowmaze after hearing some play reports, but haven't picked it up yet. I managed to grab Rappan Athuk (the S&W version) from the currently Frog God Games holiday bundle. I've only skimmed it, but it seems a bit of a mess so isn't high on my list.

I didn't even think of T1-4. I'll have to give that a look over as well.

I was to thinking that Rappan Athuk, was a gazetter for a campaign world, more than an adventure ?

RA is a true megadungeon, at least the 3E version was. Like Dizzy, I got the S&W pdf version but haven't looked it over to compare yet. There was a bit of background, in order to explain Rappan's existence, but very little overall.

Back to the original question, I ran some homemade ones back in the 1980s but I'm afraid I haven't found a group interested in megadungeons; either for me to run or to play in. :( I'd really like to run a full cleanout of either Tegel Manor or B4. Oh well! :)

I guess we could toss these in, to broaden the topic a bit.

Not necessarily one huge dungeon but compiled as on big adventure:

The Complete Roslof Keep Campaign

========
A0-A4: Against the Slave Lords, Scourge of the Slave Lords (TSR Inc), Levels 4-7: module that has some expanded content for the A0-A4 Slavers series.

Lowdown in HighPort (Dungeon Magazine #221): Played after module A0

The Last Slave Lord (Dungeon Magazine #215) (Last one played in the Slave Lord Series, after A4)
http://greyhawkery.blogspot.com/2013/06/dungeon-215-last-slave-lord.html

Slavers (sequel to Scourge of the Slave Lords)

==========

WG5 Mordenkainens Fantastic Adventure
Dungeon Magazine #112, #124 & #139
The Oerth Journal #23, March 2008

===========

I3-5 Desert of Desolation

X4, X5 & X10

============

Thanks! I totally forgot I have this downloaded too. Will be giving it a look as well.

I've heard good things about Castle of the Mad ArchMage too, but don't own it yet.

DMMike is right, Rappan Athuk is quite the megadungeon (and supposedly extremely deadly too).

Thanks for all the ideas so far guys!

Here is a Mega-Dungeon series, I found, which has a good write-up!

Stonhell Dungeon Supplement 1: The Brigand Caves
Stonehell Dungeon: Down Night Haunted Halls
Stonehell Dungeon Supplement 2: Buried Secrets
Stonehell Dungeon: Into the Heart of Hell
