RFI is back with another mini issue, and this week DMs Vince, Matt, Chrispy explore divine intervention. It’s briefly mentioned on page 111 of the Dungeon Master’s Guide and the crew expands upon it’s uses in the game and how to avoid the character phoning a deity at any sign of trouble. So sit back and enjoy this divinely inspiring issue of Roll for Initiative.

Amusing little anecdote.
I was DM'ing a 1e game back maybe around 1990 or so, and one of the fighters always got in a jam and prayed for their goddess to bail them out(Ishtar). It got old pretty quick so the goddess told the fighter that he had to invoke her name every time he went into battle.
If he didn't invoke her, his sword would instantly disappear. It was a good way to snap him back in line from overusing it.
I suppose, as a DM, i should have just not given in to the constant calling out for one's goddess, but this one worked into the game pretty well.

My anecdote is about a half-orc fighter who was a little bit fanatical with his deity, he-who-is-not-named, and unfortunately started naming him, actually forgetfulness on my part but the DM ran a "if you say it your character says it" rule, so consequently he got struck down with partial blindness in one eye.
